Alexander Tchaikovsky

Soviet and Russian composer, pianist, educator, musician and public figure. Graduated from Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory in the piano class of G. G. Neuhaus and L. Naumov; composition class and assistantship-internship of T.N. Khrennikov.

Alexander Vladimirovich believes that the composer should not be confined to one musical direction, but should be able to do everything and be many-sided, because he, in fact, is a performer. And he confirms this with his own work, because, as one of the most famous composers of our time, he is successful at everything. The genres and subjects of his compositions are very diverse: from large-scale orchestral and vocal-symphonic works to comic operas. He is the author of oratorios, symphonies, musicals, instrumental concertos, chamber compositions, film and theater music. Commissioned by the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theater named after D.A. Hvorostovsky, the composer wrote a grandiose epic opera "Yermak" with massive large-scale scenes, lyrical duets and emotional arias, which premiered on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk theater in 2019. In 2021, his domra concerto with a symphony orchestra became a mandatory piece of the third round of the III All-Russian Music Competition (established by order of the Government of the Russian Federation).

"There must be creative impudence, the courage to express yourself. And you need to work hard — the more you compose, the more you accumulate techniques, skills, knowledge and … you recognize yourself, "says the master. The composer gives master classes in the USA, Canada, Germany and other countries, participates in the jury of competitions, writes critical articles for music publications.

Laureate of the 1st prize at the Hollybush Festival International Composers Competition in New Jersey (1985). Composer-in-residence of Kissingen Summer (Germany, 1988) and Nova Scotia (Canada, 1995) festivals.

Artistic Director of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic, Chairman of the Council of the Union of Composers of Russia, Vice-President of the Authors' Council at Russian Authors' Society. Founder of the Music Festival "Youth Academies of Russia".

Holder of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation and D. Shostakovich Prize, laureate of the Yuri Bashmet’s International Charity Fund, Awardee of the Order of Friendship, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation.
