Vadim Repin

Soviet and Russian violinist, educator, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize.

Vadim Repin started playing the violin at the age of 5 under Dmitry Vaks. Two years later, on his teacher’s recommendation studied with Professor Zakhar Bron at the M.I. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory. In 1982, at the Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Lublin, he played the Violin Concerto No. 1 C major by T.N. Khrennikov and won the first prize.

In 1989, the musician became the youngest winner of the most prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in its entire history, having played the Violin Concerto by P.I. Tchaikovsky and Sonata No. 3 by I. Brahms in the final round. After this event, the doors of the best world halls were opened to him.

In the same year Vadim Repin moved to Luebeck (Germany) together with the family of Z. Bron and his other students.

Vadim Repin performs with the major orchestras of Austria, the UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Russia, the USA, and France. His creative partners are M. Argerich, C. Bartoli, Y. Bashmet, M. Pletnev, N. Lugansky, E. Kissin, M. Maisky, and Lang Lang. The musician has performed premieres of works by S. Gubaidulina, J. MacMillan, B. Yusupov, L. Auerbach, I. Demutsky, and M. Pletnev.
