Viktor Tretyakov

The President of the International Violin Competition in Krasnoyarsk is a violinist, teacher, conductor, and one of the most famous representatives of the Russian violin school.

In 1966, as a student at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the legendary Professor Yuri Yankelevich, Viktor Tretyakov won the first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, which signified his breakthrough as a performer.

The violinist successfully performs as a soloist all over the world to this day.

The maestro’s repertoire is based mainly on violin concertos of the 19th century, his interpretations of works of the 20th century, primarily by D.D. Shostakovich and S.S. Prokofiev are acknowledged as an example for other performers.

Viktor Tretyakov combines concert activities with teaching and social work. From 1983 to 1991 he headed the State Chamber Orchestra of the USSR. He is a participant of music festivals, head of master classes, chairman and member of the jury of many international competitions. He trained a galaxy of remarkable violinists, being a Professor at the Moscow Conservatory and the Cologne University of Music and Dance.

People’s Artist of the USSR. Honorary citizen of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk region.
